Shoulders Clinic

  • Santa Fe Thrive 947 West Alameda Street Santa Fe, NM, 87501 United States (map)

The shoulders have the highest range of motion of any joint in the body. However, to gain this flexibility, we've had to give up stability, which can lead to tension, pain, or injury in the neck, shoulders, elbows, or wrists. Done correctly, yoga can be therapeutic and healing to these areas - but done sloppily or without knowledge of proper alignment we can get into trouble. Join Abby in collaboration with Santa Fe Thrive for this special workshop, and you'll walk away with greater knowledge of how to create strength and longevity in your shoulders.

The workshop will begin with a discussion and lecture on the foundational anatomy of the shoulder. Students will learn the important muscles, bones, and articulations of the shoulder girdle, and how to locate & feel these areas within their own bodies.

Then, we’ll move into a full 90-minute yoga practice where we’ll apply functional anatomy to the asana. Abby will guide students how to breathe, move, and integrate the body to promote stability and spaciousness in the shoulders. Students will learn how to do the correct actions in their yoga poses, and walk away with the embodied knowledge of how to work caringly with their shoulders in the future.
