The workshop will begin with a discussion on our two basic principles (Intra-Abdominal Pressure and Ground Force Reaction) that can be directly applied towards your individual practice and body patterns. Abby will weave together knowledge from over a decade of working with bodies as a massage therapist and yoga teacher to offer information that's practical, accessible, and applicable. This workshop is designed to take your practice to the next level by incorporating stronger, smoother, and more playful transitions.You will learn how to get lighter and quieter in your floats and jumps, how to smooth out the edges of your movements, and how to optimize your movements to eliminate unnecessary energy dumps.

  • Float into Chaturanga Dandasana — from the top of the mat, from standing splits, and from handstand.

  • Float to the top of the yoga mat — from Down Dog, and through Fire Jumps.

  • Roll over your toes correctly and smoothly in your transitions — from Chaturanga into Upward Facing Dog, and from Up Dog into Downward Facing Dog.

  • Step through into standing postures.

  • Incorporate arm balance and inversion play into your flow.

The Yoga Sutras are an ancient text that define the Eight Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga) and explain in detail how to practice and live yogically. One of the 8 limbs is THE YAMAS - a set of five yogic principles that guide us how to act ethically in our lives. The yamas are the first of the eight limbs, and actually precede asana practice as part of a yogic lifestyle!

In the special in-depth series, Abby will guide you to explore these five principles - not only what they are, but how to experience and embody them in your physical yoga practice. Each session will begin with discussion, followed by a yoga asana practice which will integrate the yama into the physical practice. You'll embody each yama, and learn how to take them from your yoga mat into your daily life. This series will delve into how to practice asana ethically, and how the five yamas innately guide you away from stress and towards an abiding sense of inner peace within yourself and in relation to others.

In this special immersion, join Abby in collaboration with Lighthouse Yoga Center to dive into some of the more subtle parts of the yoga practice that go deeper than the physical body.

This immersion will include learning about:

  • Chakras: learn about the inherent power within the chakra system, and how to utilize it to create transformation

  • Pranayama: experience a wide range of breathing practices, or pranayama, and learn about how the impact the physical, energetic, and emotional bodies

Join me in collaboration with Washington Yoga Center for this special workshop to strengthen and support the keystone of the body – the lower back. The lower back and it’s supporting joints and muscles physically support the pelvis and spine, and when it’s not functioning well can cause troublesome aches and pains. Yoga can either be healing or injurious – and in this workshop you’ll learn how to work within your unique body and practice in a way that promotes long-term support in the lower back.

This workshop will begin with a discussion about basic functional anatomy and how this information directly applies to our asana practice. Next, we’ll move through a super juicy, therapeutic yoga practice designed to create healing and spaciousness in the lower back. Week 1: The Feet & Legs

Monday, October 18th

Everything begins in the feet, especially in movement practices like yoga. In this workshop, learn how to support the legs and the rest of your body in standing, balancing, and seated asanas. You'll move your legs through their full range of motion and experience standing strongly in your power through a mindful yoga practice.



Week 2: The Pelvis

Monday, October 25th

The pelvis is often considered a gateway into the torso and spine. The combination of joints between the thigh bone, pelvic bones, and sacrum is responsible for our ability to walk comfortably on our two feet. Learn about the functionality of the pelvis and how it's supporting muscles play an enormous role in our day-to-day lives, including supporting our knees and lower back.



Week 3: The Spine

Monday, November 1st

The spine is the central axis of all movement in yoga, as well as the most powerful channel for our life force energy. Learn how to create spaciousness and integrity in the spine through yoga postures, guided meditation, and breathing techniques. You'll be guided on how to sense and feel the physical and energetic spine, and how to safely use the spine as a point of reference for many different asanas and movements in yoga.



Week 4: The Shoulders, Arms, & Wrists

Monday, November 8th

In yoga, we are asked to place our whole body weight onto the wrist and shoulder joints in common asanas like downward dog and chaturanga, as well as in inversions and arm balances. In this workshop, discover what causes the day-to-day long-term aches and pains in the shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and how we can use yoga to help alleviate these common issues. Learn to create stability and spaciousness in the shoulders, arms, and wrists.



Week 5: The Core & Flank

Monday, November 15th

When we hear "core," often the first thing that comes to mind is the abdominals. In this workshop, we're going to expand our awareness of the core to include the muscles in the belly, back, and side body. Learn how to access different areas of your true core through twisting, sidebending, and front and back body strengthening. We'll explore asana, pranayama, and kriya.



Week 6: The Neck, Head, & Jaw

Monday, November 22nd

The neck, head, and jaw are the places where so much of our tension and stress get held. These areas are not only with small and delicate bones, fascia, and muscles, they also hold some very important organs like the brain, eyes, and inner ear. In this workshop, learn how to approach your yoga practice in a way that will encourage softening and ease in the upper realms of the physical body.

Join Abby for this special workshop where you'll learn how to use yogic practices to reduce stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety are issues that are present for all of us in some way, shape, or form - and experiencing these feelings long-term can have a negative impact on our health and wellbeing. Over time, increased levels of stress and anxiety impact our bodies on many levels, including increased inflammation, physical pain in areas of tension, and decreased functionality in certain bodily systems - especially the immune and digestive systems. Current scientific research is just beginning to understand the long-term physiological, mental, and emotional impact caused by stress and anxiety.

Luckily for us, traditional yoga offers many tools to help us transform our moment-to-moment experience away from anxiety and towards contentment. Not only can we harness the power of these yogic tools to change our immediate experience, but yoga also helps us to create long-lasting transformation in our mental and emotional patterning by working on the level of the nervous system. Through specific breathing techniques, postures, and meditations we can literally rewire our brains!
